hi there,

Jst noticed today on my bird feeder - Berriew a Great Tit with what appears to be growths on its head, wings and leg. Unfortunatly could not get a picture - anyone have any ideas what it might be?

  1. Last year there were reports of a new strain of Avian Pox in particular affecting Great Tits and spreading through the country - check out the BTO reports on this, they give advice on what to do and how to report cases. If it looks/sounds like what you saw perhaps worth contacting them (and cleaning your feeders regularly of course!!)

  2. good point on cleaning the feeders - I'll do that - it did'nt appear to stop it feeding, but I have to say it looked awful!

  3. It would do! Feeders I normally clean every couple of weeks with a very dilute solution of bleach, rinse and air dry etc - bird baths I probably don't clean enough, normally every 3 days or so but the BTO say daily (not sure how you're supposed to air dry a bird bath in this summer weather!!)
