The Wern was full of treats this morning - it looks as though at least one pair of yellowhammers are nest-building (female carrying nesting material on Tuesday) and male singing and showing well daily. Whitethroats are back, the male singing and 'display-flighting' very conspicuously. But the big surprise was a singing Grasshopper Warbler, in a lane-side hedge - with a bit of patience it was quite easy to find and to watch, seeming to 'side-step' soundlessly along the twigs within the hedge, it's tail trembling as it reeled out its lengthy song.
Plenty of blackcaps, garden and willow warblers too plus a sedge warbler. Spring has definitely sprung!

ReplyDeleteThanks Mark - haven't heard it since so guess it was just passing through. It didn't really seem the right habitat for it but it was lovely to see.
