Lapwing on the Wern

A couple of weeks ago Chris referred to his birdwatching on the Long Mountain reminding him of the Sixties - it was a bit like that on the Wern this morning. A curlew's bubbling song, several whitethroats singing, and two lapwings flying acrobatically and calling in the way that only lapwings can! - all these were common sights and sounds when we moved here in 1980, but it's been a long time now since we've enjoyed them here. 

A great start to the day - the only downside was the way the hedgebottoms and verges have been shaved, presumably by the Council. Are there no guidelines to avoid disturbing nesting birds?

    Sect 1 Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 Sue. They have to intentionally destroy a nest Sue, difficult to prove!

    PCC do cut road verges at this time of year, but generally not hedges. Local people and landowners often do this. Do contact PCC with your concerns, though. It all helps to keep up the pressure.
