Singing Warblers

While gardening this morning I enjoyed listening to four of our migrant warblers - repetitive Chiffchaff, fluty Blackcap, scratchy Whitethroat and chattering Garden Warbler. Part of our garden is the old stationmaster's garden at Middletown, where the railway edges and embankments provide good habitat. A Willow Warbler stayed two weeks earlier in May and endlessly repeated its wistful cadence, but has moved on. They nest in good numbers on the Breidden Hills. Our sixth regular is the more elusive Lesser Whitethroat, which we sometimes hear rattling in the hedges along the lane. Their songs (and those of most British birds) can be found here: https://www.british-birdsongs.uk

  1. Sounds pretty good to me, I have an app on my iPad which I find excellent for checking out bird calls and songs.

  2. Decent selection there Simon - not as yet heard a Willow Warbler up here, inevitable Chiffchaff din carrying on plus regular Blackcap song. Heard a Whitethroat couple of days ago but as yet not seen - and obviously given my current lack of mobility and need to restrict movement to a sensible level I'm a little short of opportunities to hear/spot/photo our local regulars!
