Brambling Control

I have been ringing small numbers of Brambling in the garden since the end of November, and today had a rewarding control of a female I ringed here on 29th March 2019 as an adult. This implies it migrated as a juvenile, (or even possible adult), in Winters 2017/18, and then as an adult in 2018/19 when ringed here, 2019/20, 2020/21, and now in 2021/22.

So 5 Winter migrations, not necessarily all to UK, but extraordinary to turn up in the same trap. The ringing report will show  "Distance 0 kms"! I hope others find this as fascinating as I do.

  1. Yes Chris, interesting. Chris Griffiths recently had a Woodcock re-trap in the same field as in 2020. That too will be recorded as no movement - when it's probably been to Russia and back. Maybe as far as Kazakhstan!
