Iceland Gull @ Welshpool

A 1st winter Iceland Gull flew south down the Severn valley around 13:00 today with around 400-500 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. I have no doubt this was a different bird to the one that Sue saw earlier in the week as it was the same size (if not a tiny bit smaller) as the Lesser Black-backs.

It's worth going through any gulls that you see at the moment as there has been an influx of 'White-winged' gulls in to britain over the last few weeks!

Amazingly this is only the 2nd county record!!

  1. Fantastic Paul, but please don't ask me to photograph it!

  2. Great spot Paul - John and Andy Morris spotted one at Borth yesterday and reported it to the Ceredigion guys (see their blog) so that's at least 2 reasonably close by. Normally don't pay that much attention to gulls but maybe I should start???

  3. Well spotted Paul. Am scanning all gull flocks with 'new eyes' these days!
