A 1st winter Iceland Gull flew south down the Severn valley around 13:00 today with around 400-500 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. I have no doubt this was a different bird to the one that Sue saw earlier in the week as it was the same size (if not a tiny bit smaller) as the Lesser Black-backs.
It's worth going through any gulls that you see at the moment as there has been an influx of 'White-winged' gulls in to britain over the last few weeks!
Amazingly this is only the 2nd county record!!

Fantastic Paul, but please don't ask me to photograph it!
ReplyDeleteGreat spot Paul - John and Andy Morris spotted one at Borth yesterday and reported it to the Ceredigion guys (see their blog) so that's at least 2 reasonably close by. Normally don't pay that much attention to gulls but maybe I should start???
ReplyDeleteWell spotted Paul. Am scanning all gull flocks with 'new eyes' these days!
