Custard Woodpecker in Newtown

Vikki Hunt reports a 'custard' woodpecker has recently been visiting garden feeders in Newtown. This is a Great Spotted Woodpecker where the red coloration is replaced by yellow - due to a genetic mutation called xanthochroism. A similar bird was present at Four Crosses over the winter of 2017/18.
